What are categories?

In Zapiens, categories are thematic areas that allow you to structure your organization’s knowledge.

They can be of two types:

  1. Parent categories: general categories

  2. Child categories: specific categories within the Parent Categories

By linking child categories to their respective parent category, category or subject area paths are constructed with different levels of specification.

We recommend grouping the questions by categories or subject areas, since:

  1. They ease Zap’s (our Artificial Intelligence) learning

  2. They provide quantitative and qualitative data on what is known and unknown in your organization

In addition, in Zapiens you can set access permissions to certain categories or knowledge areas through our "Roles" feature. Only users with that permission will be able to see those categories and their associated questions in the App. To do this, you must previously enable the option "Restricted" in the categories you consider.

How to create a category?

Before you start creating categories, think about which categories or subject areas are relevant in your organization and about which ones you need to analyze what is known and unknown. Build a simple knowledge map based on clear and measurable objectives.

  1. Go to the "Questions" area on the left side menu

  2. Click on the "Category" section to access the list of categories

  3. Click on the "Create category" button to access all its sections:

    • Description

    • Restricted

    • Parent Category

    • Similar category

  4. In "Description" write the name of the category

  5. Enable the "Restricted" option if you need to create a role

  6. Select from the list a "Parent Category" if the category you are creating belongs to a more general subject area or Parent Category

  7. Select a "Similar Category" from the proposals if you consider that it has some kind of relationship

  8. Click on the "Save" button

  9. Click on any area of the "Left Side Menu" to exit the "New Category" section

Note: If you have enabled the "Restricted" option when saving the category you can directly create the role:

  1. In the pop-up window click on the "Edit" button

  2. You will automatically be taken to the "New Role" section. Check out our article What a Role is and how to create it

  3. If you don't want to create the role at the moment, in the pop-up window click on the "Close" button to continue in the category list

Note: A restricted category without an associated role hides the knowledge linked to all the App users. That is, Zap will not be able to offer its answers to the questions belonging to that category.
